We’ve loved Kerry Washington’s recent looks on the promotional trail for new Tarantino film Django Unchained. She’s stolen the show on the red carpet so far with bold dress choices accompanied by effortlessly stylish hair to compliment her delicate features.

We loved her angled bob, with a relaxed finish and heavy blunt fringe. Accompanying this not-too-perfect red carpet look with statement makeup is a great look.

The topknot shows no signs of stopping its reign as the must-have up-do of the moment, and no wonder when it looks as good as Kerry’s does here. The tight and twisted take on the high bun is really fashion forward, and there’s not a trace of a hair out of place despite her fringed cut.

I have some great memories of this time of year, my favourite has to be the time my sister and I were excited to go home for our first Christmas after we moved away. We had to get a coach that took about 9 hours because we couldn’t afford the train! This year has been a rollercoaster, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had such an exciting 2012, but with the end of the year it’s time to relax,catch up with those closest to us and just have fun. KEEP YOUR HAIR AT ITS HEALTHIEST

If you like playing with colour as much as I do you can run the risk of dry, unhappy hair. I also achieve my signature style by using heat styling, which can put hair under a lot of stress and strain.Thankfully it only takes a few simple, but essential steps to keep your locks looking thick and shiny every day.

Before using tongs to achieve my favourite loose curls, I always, always use a heat protection spray! Going without might be tempting, but such naughty behavior only ends in tears, believe me. LOVE YOUR STYLIST

Regular trims are not only important for keeping your style looking its best, something I can’t do withoutfor TV appearances, but it’s essential to hair health too. NOURISH YOUR LOCKS

My favourite hair products are those that I can use at home to help keep my hair looking as fantastic as the stylists do, so I swear by Designline Fiji Oil. I use it to keep my hair strong, thick and shiny. It’s really a miracle product, especially since my love of colour changes can leave my hair feel really unhappy with me otherwise. It’s amazing how important being good to yourself can be for your skin and hair too, so I try to be well behaved by drinking lots of water and eating well.

One more thing? Be bold! I’ve always loved experimenting with my look, and I love how fun hairstyling can be… if you make it that way!

Cher certainly knows how to mix up styles and has had various looks over the last eighteen months – some more popular than others, it has to be said! But this latest hairstyle, a more mature, textured look definitely wins our vote.

1. Keep Your Colour Looking Cool

“It’s that time of year again, the wellies were out, the tent was packed and the straw hats had been dusted off. It’s festival season! This weekend I hit the Isle of Wight festival and it was, as expected, fantastic!

Out came the funky sunglasses, denim shorts and I didn’t forget my suncream! Not that I needed it much with this English weather! But which products did I pack to achieve that wild festival hair? From the Regis Designline range I had chosen the following products: Texture Tousle, Soft Sculpting Glaze, Powder Boost and Hold Everything Hairspray.

Lana Del Rey was one of the festival highlights. The Born to Die singer looked and sounded fabulous on stage. Here’s my festival hair diary:

Friday – Fab hair!
We all want to look our best on our first day so I went with ghd-enhanced curls. Before drying I used Designline Soft Sculpting Glaze for shine and to support the curls, then once dry I used Designline Hold Everything Hairspray to finish.

Saturday – Big hair!
I achieved my straight out-of-bed look using Powder Boost on my roots to help create volume, and I finished by working in some Texture Tousle through the mid-lengths and ends.

Sunday – Messy hair!
Once again I used Powder Boost on the roots for volume, scrunched in some Soft Sculpting Glaze and randomly pinned the hair for that random, messy style festivals are famous for. To finish I sprayed in some Hold Everything Hairspray. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

So how will you be wearing your hair for the festivals ahead, or will you choose to hide it all under a straw hat?”

The Parisian model/actress/singer began her career in 1952 and is considered one of the most famous sex symbols of all time. In the sixties, her luscious lips, stunning figure and big, beautiful hair saw Bardot catch the attention of every man and woman of the era. Now into her seventies, Bardot retired from the media world in 1973 to focus on her animal rights activism but the image of her as one of the world’s most beautiful women lives on, and even in 2012 she is still an inspiration to us all.

Today, singers such as the late Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele all take their hair inspiration from Bardot. You think of Bardot, you think of volume… and lots of it! This look is here to stay and is bang on trend this season, emphasizing controlled volume with a luxurious finish. Hair this big looks sexy, expensive and beams with shine. If you want to create your own “Bardot-do” then here’s how…

1. Pre shampoo and condition the hair in Regis Designline Get Pumped volumising range as this will give the ultimate base to start your look with.

2. Apply Regis Designline Get Pumped volume foam to the hair before drying. This will add volume and support to your look and will help maintain it for hour after hour. Once applied, begin to blow-dry using a round brush to give lift, body and bounce to the hair. Complete this by taking 2-inch deep sections from the nape of the head finishing your last section to blow-dry at the hair line.

3. Once complete, it’s time to curl the hair. You can either use heated rollers, ghd irons, a curling wand, or leave it natural after blow-drying. After curling, brush the curls out using a soft brush to create a more natural looking curl.

4. From that point begin to section the hair into a semi-circle shape and section from the temples to the crown area of the head. Starting from the crown, begin to lightly back-comb the hair taking small 1-inch sections to allow control and method to the style. Work your way forward until you reach about 1-inch before the hairline (fringe area) This gets left out, creating softness around the face.

5. Now the hair is back-combed (don’t worry if it looks messy) smoothen any flyways down with a soft brush and begin to shape your style into place. Once your happy with the height and width carefully pin into place using pins to match your hair colour. Fix into place just below the crown in the centre. Hold the style with Regis Designline Volumising Hairspray and there you have it! Your very own Brigitte.

This is a classic look and will be around for many years to come. You can always adjust the curls, height and amount of backcombing depending on your desired style. Sixties fashion is huge for 2012 and we at Regis predict this look will be a massive hit. So go on girls, give the Bardot-do a go and see what you think…….

At number three in our top five retro hairstyles, we have 60’s British fashion model Twiggy - a true fashion icon. Twiggy’s image defined the 60′s fashion scene – her strong, androgynous looks, sharp pixie crop and thick eyelashes made Twiggy stand out from the rest of the models at the time.

Twiggy’s look was fresh and fashion bible Vogue described her as an “extravaganza that makes the look of the sixties.” Her image took the fashion world by storm and remains an inspiration today.

Twiggy’s mod style was very sleek and tamed with plenty of control. To recreate at home, it’s simple and can even be achievedwith most bobs by tucking and pinning the front length behind the ears once complete.

Here’s my advice on how to do a quick and simple Twiggy recreation:

1. Cleanse and condition the hair using the Regis DesignLine Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner.
2. Apply a small amount of Regis DesignLine Satin Smooth, which is a cream-like product which will encourage the hair to be smooth and tamed.
3. Dry the hair using a flat paddle brush. Dry the hair into the desired shape using the brush to mould the style into place.
4. Get the ultimate side parting using a dressing comb to find the side parting. As you can see on Twiggy, it very much begins where the eye ends. So from that edge of the eye take your parting. Neat, straight and right to the back of the crown. Perfect.
5. Now’s the time to iron the hair using some ghd classic stylers for that extra smooth finish.
6. Apply a small amount of Regis DesignLine Slick Whip to calm down any strays if necessary. If you prefer to, you could even consider combing the hair whilst the product is applied for an extra polished finish.
7. Finally, finish with Regis DesignLine Hold Everything hairspray for some extra control and hold.

Voila! Your Twiggy inspired look is complete! Remember, if the hair is cut into a bob now is the time to tuck the remaining hair behind the ears and gently secure using a Kirby grip similar to that of your hair colour.

Celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Keira Knightly have all rocked the mod look inspired by Twiggy. Her style is classic and timeless and is topped off with beautiful, warm blonde highlights.
