Our very own Melanie Pease, a stylist at our Peterborough salon and a member of the Regis and GHD Artistic Teams, was lucky enough to be invited to help style the models backstage at the Saloni show last Friday! We asked Melanie to tell us about her London Fashion Week experience…

Last week I was asked to help style the models backstage for the Saloni show at London Fashion Week! The ‘Saloni Girl’ is an elegant traveller who has just arrived off a flight from Africa. The look is cool and glamorous, yet still young and fun!

The prints for the Salonis Autumn/Winter 2011 collection have taken inspiration from a birds eye view – the Earth, sandstorms and the Northern Lights! The key colours in this collection are champagne, black, intense reds and deep purples. This inspiration then carries through into the materials used for the collection – felted wools, lurex, silk jerseys, embroidered leather and delicate beading throughout.

The venue for the presentation was opulent, elegant and gave the vibe of an eccentric English manor house! The makeup started off with a very clean base, with a rouge lip stain as the main focus.

Now for the hair! We styled the hair into the shape of a turban to continue the theme of the show…

To achieve this look the hair was first back-combed into meches, sprayed and ironed.

The hair was then brushed out thoroughly to form the texture at the base.

To finish off the look we used Wella Professional Stay Styled Finishing Spray to hold the hair into place.

I had a fantastic time at London Fashion Week and the end look was fabulous!

Natalie Portman is a fan of this look and it’s a style which is definitely going to be around for a while. Long gone are the days of the usual, fixated locks, cemented with hairspray! Natural glam has taken over the fashion trends and it’s certain to make an appearance at this year’s award ceremonies.

Take Kim Kardashian, one of LA’s hottest ladies at the moment, she showed us how it’s done at the People’s Choice Awards this month by sporting a very natural and sexy beehive. Kim left a few strands of hair out of the beehive, which framed her face beautifully and really softened the look. Congratulations Ms Kardashian for opting for such an effortlessly, chic look!”

“I think the best celeb hair always looks effortless, timeless and chic, almost looking as if the stars have styled their locks themselves.

I think we can expect to see lots of height and volume on the red carpet this year. Think lots of quiffs and plenty of back-combing! This could then be loosely pinned into a vertical roll, creating a sultry look with lots of shine.

Beautiful tumbling waves will also make a comeback, think the Jessica Rabbit look for the ultimate sex appeal!”

“For me the ultimate glamorous look is an elegant and chic up ‘do, and I think we can expect to see a lot of our favourite celebs opting for this style in 2011.

Think fabulous fishtail plaits, sultry low side buns, beautiful beehives, hot high buns teamed with a plait and the classic chignon! All of these looks are easy to achieve, yet look glamorous and sexy no matter what the occasion.

I also think waves will make an appearance – they’re one of the most natural and classic styles around but look fabulous every time!”

“I think we can expect the stars to embrace a more natural look for the red carpet this year, thanks to the ever more popular ombré technique!  This technique gives the hair a natural ‘grown out’ effect, making worrying about roots a thing of the past!

We can expect to see this fabulous bohemian style walking down the red carpet, with celebrities following in the footsteps of style gurus Alexa Chung, Dannii Minogue and Sienna Miller, who are all already fans of this look.  It will add subtle texture and movement to any up ‘do and will work perfectly with this years more casually styled trends.”
